Although Congress has temporarily averted the fiscal cliff, only a short-term two month agreement was reached to prevent automatic across-the-board spending cuts, known as the sequester. Before these kick in at the end of those two months, Congress must reach agreement on a balanced plan that includes both spending cuts and new revenues. It is critical for Republicans to work with Democrats to pass a comprehensive, long-term plan that puts our nation back on a fiscally sustainable path, while not putting the burden of deficit reduction on the most vulnerable Americans. Taking action on such a plan will give certainty and restore confidence to businesses and families, which will help strengthen our economy and support job creation.
