U.S. Congressman Dave Camp

Camp Discusses Looming Fiscal Cliff
As December 31, 2012 draws closer, one thing is clear: we need a balanced approach to avert the fiscal cliff, or else every American taxpayer will face the prospect of paying higher taxes on January 1, 2013. Congressman Dave Camp (R-MI) is focused on stopping the looming tax hikes while passing and enacting comprehensive tax reform that will create a fairer, simpler tax code for Michigan families and small businesses.  This approach to comprehensive tax reform can lead to greater economic growth and the revenues the President is demanding.  Tax reform paired with responsible spending cuts is the balanced approach America needs to stop the fiscal cliff and begin to address the $16 trillion debt.

Camp recently took the time to talk with MLive about the fiscal cliff and ongoing negotiations between the Obama Administration and Congress.

Below is a portion of the interview:

MLIVE: What will it take to keep the U.S. from going over the fiscal cliff?
CAMP: We need a balanced approach, that means spending cuts and serious entitlement reforms along with revenues. This week, House Republican leadership put forward a bold offer to tackle these problems. I believe it is a bipartisan solution that can pass both chambers of Congress and be signed by the president.

MLIVE: Are these things going to happen before the deadline?
CAMP: We need to make sure every American family is not hit with a tax increase at the end of the year. I am optimistic that we can work to a compromise; we just need the President and Senate to signal that they are willing to work towards a balanced approach that includes both spending and revenues.

Camp also talked with WJR’s Frank Beckmann about tax reform and the fiscal cliff.  Click here to listen to the radio interview.
 The New Fourth District
Because of re-districting, which occurs every 10 years based on the U.S. Census, Michigan’s Fourth District has changed.  Beginning on January 3, 2013 when the 113th Congress is sworn in, Camp will represent the new Fourth District.  These changes include adding Clinton, Gladwin, Ogemaw, Wexford and parts of Shiawassee Counties.  Grand Traverse, Kalkaska and Leelanau Counties have been added to Michigan’s First District, represented by Dr. Dan Benishek, and part of Montcalm County has been added to the Third District represented by Rep. Justin Amash.

 Groundbreaking in the Fourth District

On December 3, 2012, community leaders gathered for the groundbreaking, shown on the left, for construction of a new fire station in Merrill, MI.  The project is partially supported by a grant from the United States Department of Agriculture.  If your organization needs assistance with a Federal grant contact Camp’s office by e-mail or call 1-800-342-2455.
