Washington, DC (October 3, 2012) – Congressman Gus Bilirakis (FL-09), member of the Committee on Homeland Security and Chairman of the Subcommittee on Emergency Preparedness, Response and Communications, today issued the following statement in response to the Obama Administration’s purchase of Thomson Prison in Illinois:

“In order to keep terrorists out of our country, Congress previously blocked the President’s dangerous plan to close Guantanamo Bay and bring terrorists onto U.S. soil for trial in civilian courts. This $165 million purchase demonstrates not only defiance of the will of the American people, but could also open the door to transferring detainees. This latest circumvention of Congress is deeply troubling, and I stand committed to working with my colleagues to ensure these dangerous terrorists are not moved to our Homeland.”
