Broun Votes to Hold Attorney General in Contempt of Congress

U.S. Congressman Paul Broun, M.D. (GA-10) today released the following statement after voting to hold United States Attorney General, Eric Holder, in contempt of Congress. The resolution passed the House of Representatives 255-67, with 17 Democrats voting yes.
“Eric Holder and his Justice Department have used every trick in the book to avoid fault in the ‘Fast and Furious’ case,” said Rep. Broun. “For more than a year and a half, they have obstructed access to documents that would finally shed light on the failures of the Justice Department that led to the tragic death of federal border agent Brian Terry and losing thousands of guns to drug traffickers in Mexico. Lying to Congress is no small transgression, and it demands a swift and severe response.
“This Justice Department has become a laughingstock, and Attorney General Eric Holder is ultimately responsible for its ignorance, recklessness, and incompetence. I have repeatedly called for his resignation, and I am glad to see my colleagues finally following suit in voting to hold him in contempt of Congress. The Obama Administration needs a strong dose of accountability, and I hope this vote is just the first step in holding their feet to the fire.”
