Washington, Dec 20, 2012 -

Washington, D.C. – Congresswoman Mazie K. Hirono (HI-02) today voted in favor of legislation that supports the men and women of our armed services, including pay increases for our servicemembers and federal investments in military construction projects in Hawaii. The House passed H.R. 4310, the National Defense Authorization Act of 2013 (NDAA), by a vote of 315-107.

“This measure will provide critical support to our nation’s servicemembers and their families in Hawaii, throughout our country, and overseas. Our soldiers, sailors, airmen, and marines will receive well-earned increases in pay and benefits.

“This bill also invests more than $372 million in construction and energy efficiency projects in Hawaii that will help create jobs and support the state’s economy. Island military installations such as Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam, Marine Corps Base-Hawaii, and Schofield Barracks will benefit from the construction of new facilities and other upgrades. Hawaii public schools will also receive funding to help support keiki from military families.

“This is not a perfect bill. However, this compromise is an improvement on the House measure passed in May and, more importantly, renews our support for our troops.”
