Noem calls trillion dollar coin idea "embarrassing"

Posted: Updated:

Republican Representative Kristi Noem is speaking out about the United States Treasury's move to curve the debt ceiling by minting a trillion dollar coin.

Noem issued a statement Thursday showing she is co-sponsoring the "Stop the Coin Act" to prevent the US Treasury's debt ceiling diversion tactic.

The "Stop the Coin Act" will be introduced Monday by Republican Representative Greg Walden of Oregon. The Act prevents the Secretary of Treasury from minting platinum coins that could then be sold to the Federal Reserve and used to offset the nation's debt.

In the statement she issued, Noem said the Treasury's idea is embarrassing.

"The time has come for real, common sense solutions to our spending problem and this coin is only playing games with our children's futures. I will continue to work with my colleagues in Washington to find real solutions to the challenges facing our country," Noem said in the news release.
