Hultgren Announces House Science & National Labs Caucus
The new caucus will concentrate on reinforcing federal investment in research and the national laboratories.

Congressman Randy Hultgren has announced the formation of the House Science & National Labs Caucus. Hultgren is joined by Congressmen Chaka Fattah (D-PA-02), Ben Ray Lujan (D-NM-03) and Alan Nunnelee (R-MS-01) who will serve as co-chairs of the new group, with other members of the 113th Congress expected to join next year.
The new caucus will concentrate on reinforcing federal investment in research and the national laboratories, as well as raise awareness in and out of Congress about the role they play in long-term economic growth.
“These laboratories, much like the rest of the economy, deserve certainty from the government so they can continue their important work with confidence,” Hultgren said.
Hultgren, named earlier this year as the Science Coalition’s Champion of Science, also represents Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory in Batavia. Fermilab has long been at the cutting edge of physics research, but also serves the community through outreach, teaching and technological advancement.
“National labs do much more than research,” Hultgren said. “Their reach can be seen in all sectors of the economy, and they help make America the most economically competitive country in the world.
“Congressmen Fattah, Lujan and Nunnelee understand the importance of this federal investment, and I am thankful for their leadership on this critically important issue.”

Nice way to keep the liberals at Fermi Labs happy, and employed. I'll not be surprised if bailout Bill Foster is co chair.

Long term economic growth? I'm all for supporting science, but Fermilab has cost taxpayers billions of dollars over the years and most certainly hasn't contributed towards any economic growth considering that taxpayers are billed for its activities.
Some of our nation's labs do create new technologies but Fermilab exists mostly to try and find the so-called God-particle. Their work is mostly 'religious' in nature, as is NASA's nowadays.
CERN's LHC has made Fermilab mostly obsolete.

Nothing could be further from the truth. The only reason the Higgs-Boson has been called the "God Particle" is because of marketing. It has absolutely nothing to do with God or any religious sect. Because the Higgs-Boson is an all-important peice of a much larger puzzle that is "How things in the universe gain mass" (among others), marketers called it the "God Particle" because they had hoped it would put a much larger audience in touch with the work the scientists were doing.
Ignorance is much too prevalent these days.
