Dingell Mourns Passing of Senator Inouye

Washington, D.C. – Today, Congressman John D. Dingell (D-MI15) offered his deepest condolences to the family of Senator Daniel Inouye (D-HI), who passed away on December 17, 2012, due to respiratory complications.

“I had the good fortune to pick up Danny from the airport when he first arrived in Washington in 1959,” said Dingell.  “I knew then and there that he was a good, decent, and kind man, who would serve the people of Hawaii well.  Danny was a true American patriot and suffered serious injury defending his country during World War Two.  He was also my good friend, and I will miss him dearly.  Deborah’s and my thoughts and prayers are with Danny’s family in this sad time of grieving.”

After being wounded in World War Two, Senator Inouye recuperated at the Percy Jones Army Hospital in Michigan.  He was a Medal of Honor recipient, the highest-ranking Asian-American politician in U.S. history, and referred to as the “conscience of the Senate.”
