CONGRESSMAN CARTER VISITS DOWN HOME RANCH RESIDENTS
10/06/06Community Provides Support for Children and Adults with Special Needs
Round Rock, TX, Oct 6, 2006 - Representative John Carter (TX-31) had the honor of visiting with staff and residents at the Down Home Ranch in Elgin, which is in southern Williamson County. The Ranch is a working farm and ranch for people with special needs. Down Home Ranch provides disabled teens and adults with a variety of support services, including housing, training and employment, weekend and week-long camps, and recreation and fitness opportunities. Since this is a working ranch, the Down Home Ranch sells trees, poinsettias, and flowers to help with operating costs.
“The Down Home Ranch is an inspiring and special program, giving disabled individuals opportunity and support,” Congressman Carter said. “My wife and I were honored to have lunch and visit with residents and learn more about their experiences at Down Home Ranch. The Ranch staff are committed to improving the lives of campers and residents, and they should be commended for their dedication.”
The mission of Down Home Ranch is to build a rural, self-reliant community for adults with mental retardation, offering training, housing, recreation, and dignified employment, as well as opportunities for growth in mind, body, and spirit.
