Adult Volunteers

Ever wonder what it would be like to work at a zoo? Do we have an opportunity for you! If you are interested in participating in the Jacksonville Zoo and Gardens efforts toward conservation, education, and learning innovative ways to help the environment, then we need you!

Steps to Becoming an Adult Volunteer:

1. Attend a Volunteer Information Meeting.
Upcoming Dates: Saturday January 5th and Saturday, January 19th from 10:00 a.m.-11:30 a.m. at the Auditorium in the PepsiCo Foundation Education Campus which is located at the south end of the main parking lot, next to the Picnic Grove.

2. Set-up and attend an interview with the Volunteer Services Department.
Directions on how to do so will be given at the Volunteer Information Meeting.
All volunteers will be required to submit a background check at the interview.

3. Complete an Online Application.

4. Attend the Volunteer Orientation.
Upcoming dates will be given at the interview. There is a $15 fee that covers the cost of your volunteer name badge, volunteer t-shirt, and processing information.

5. You are ready to volunteer!

The Adult Volunteer Program at the Jacksonville Zoo and Gardens requires volunteers that can commit a minimum of 4 hours per week for at least a 6-month period. Individuals interested in community service hours for class or probationary requirements are not recommended for this program.

Corporate Groups and Organization Volunteers

The Zoo welcomes the opportunity to work with local businesses and organizations to plan group volunteer days. Whether it’s landscaping, light maintenance, cleaning or special events; the volunteer experience is always more fun when it’s done at the Zoo. To arrange a time for your employees to give back to the community by helping the Jacksonville Zoo and Gardens, please fill out the form below and fax it to the Volunteer Office at (904) 757-2444 or email it to us at (JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address).

On the form please list some days and times you will be available. Many of the volunteer experiences at the Zoo are in the morning and will last approximately 4 hours. Please plan to have your group here by 10:00 a.m.; we may be able to accommodate groups in the afternoons but it will limit the tasks available.

Group Volunteer Form

Once you have submitted the form you will be contacted by our Group Volunteer Liaison who will assist with setting up the day and time for the group volunteer experience. They will also review the rules and answer questions about your upcoming date. Once the date and time have been chosen, the Volunteer Office will assign a task to the group and send a final confirmation.

Please contact the Volunteer Office at (904) 757-4463, ext. 176 for more information or by (JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address).
