Having recently purchased my first Chromebook (Acer C7), I've been fielding the same question over and over again. Is it a stand alone laptop for $200 or a tablet with a keyboard attached? So I decided to bring that question to the gdgt community in hopes that some of you Chromebook owners will step-up and share how they use the device.
Will your Chromebook become your primary laptop?
What are some must-have apps new Chromebook owners need to have?
IFA Berlin, Europe's biggest Consumer Electronics event, takes place this week, and we've got info on all of the hot new products being launched. Not surprisingly, a lot of companies are showing off Windows 8 tablets and laptops, in preparation for Microsoft's October release of its next operating system. Giant 4K TVs are also in abundance, though with no real 4K programming available, they're largely a tease. Here's a list of some of the biggest launches, organized by company. Which of these...

The US Copyright Office in 2010, stated Jailbreaking iOS devices is legal. Now this exemption is running out. I would like to hear what you think about rooting or jailbreaking. I'm doing some research of my own and want any information, whether you oppose Jailbreaking/Rooting or you're in favor, I want to know. Please be as detailed as possible when replying, so that your comment is not misconstrued.
Sure it can take two inputs but the amount of mistakes it did when I typed fast made me want a physical keyboard instead. Pretty cool idea but a bit on the hefty side as it's a laptop with two screens.
) It's well worth upgrading the memory to 2 GB, but the upgrade process is brutal. This is only for the brave. Windows 7 starter edition really doesn't limit what you can do with this. It performs nicely.
I recently acquired this laptop. Format and install continued to fail until I removed the battery. Previous owner pirated the os and inform me that it would not start properly until battery was completely dead. this was the first clue. Since installing XP Pro and getting all drivers in order and complete updates through sp3. I finally tried installing the battery. Every time I do the touch pad fails the os start up is slow and other drivers fail one by one. My guess is either the battery is bad...

Looking to buy a new monitor (around 24") to use as an external for coding on my MacBook Air but I haven't really paid attention to them in a while. It looks like all the reasonably-priced ones on Newegg are 1920x1080. Is that pretty much the norm these days or should I look for something better? Also, recommendations would be appreciated.
Hey guys. Need a favor. I'd like to upgrade from my trusty Dell Inspiron 1427 laptop. Let me know any suggestions you have for a Midrange laptop (13-15 inches / 4Gb Memory/ 320 to 500Gb HDD/ midrange graphics card) and if it has an option for a backlit keyboard..
I'm looking for a laptop. But here's what I'm looking for: These are a must: NFC DLNA Bluetooth at least 1 USB 3.0 port but must have at least 2 usb ports An HDMI port (In and out if possible touch screen (possibly a convertible laptop) and a camera (for video chat. i don't plan on sing this for photography. it looks stupid) Can't be over 14 in in width, High-Res Display. Optical drive not necessary. looking for a thin laptop. Core i5 or i7 cpu, max out ram at 8 GB (can't sit pretty t 4 gb or ram) 1 gb...

[I would prefer an Android-based tablet since I'm already familiar with that platform.]
By "best tablet" I mean, which is the most reliable and intuitive device for running PowerPoint? What about connecting the tablet to a projector? Do they all have mini HDMI? Of course I wouldn't be designing the presentations on the tablet, simply running them.
I'm in the market for a new laptop after three years. Now I'm the kinda guy who doesn't mind spending a couple hundred dollars more right now to get something that seems like overkill at the present, so long as it keeps me chugging along at a decent pace for two or three years. Basically, I don't like to throw down money for a new gadget every year. This brings me to my question: Are there any decent touchscreen laptops available these days? I ask because it's patently obvious that that's the...

I'm not looking for anything too special. But cheap would be nice. I wouldn't say I need a huge hard drive, as I don't hold much on it, and the one I currently have is like 100GB and it has served me fine. I would like to stick with Windows 7.. The only little thing I might want would be a somewhat decent video card, as from time to time I still get random urges to play games.
My wife is looking into buying a Macbook Air 13", but one of the key concerns is the lack of disc drive. I don't think it's a big concern, but I think having access to a disc could be important. Buying the Apple Superdrive is $80, so that's somewhat pricey considering it doesn't play blu rays, but I don't know how much better it is than the $45 LG external player I saw in this week's Best Buy weekly ad. I have been trying to find a decent blu ray external drive on ebay/amazon but it seems that...

With Google's recent announcement of the reboot to Chrome OS, I was wondering who else apart from me is going to purchase one of the new Chromebooks, either from Samsung or Acer?
and the whole screen goes haywire - anyone else having the same experience? Also the Facebook app keeps crashing and the Facebook webpage shows a "Connection Error" most of the time - again, anyone else experiencing this?
Managed to re-attach one key, but the other seems to be missing part of its scissor switch. The pieces resemble a rectangular bracket and an oval bracket; the oval part is the one that went to the land of the lost. Luckily the keys weren't anything important (drop-down window and the right-hand Ctrl key), the missing key is more of an ugly annoyance than anything else. Does anyone know anywhere I can buy a replacement switch for my keyboard?
From everything I've read, it's nearly a dead on tie between the Asus Eee Pad Transformer and the Acer Iconia a500 tablets; both Tegra2, 1gb ram. I'm having the hardest time deciding between the two. The clear winner appears to be Asus per the IPS screen. But the Iconia build quality seems better; I like the aluminum. I don't plan on using a keyboard dock. I like the Iconia's usb ports and standard round power connector. I'm just worried about the tft screen and non...
