Retired Gen. McChrystal Takes Blame for Rolling Stone Article

The Associated Press:

Retired Gen. Stanley McChrystal takes the blame for a Rolling Stone article and the unflattering comments attributed to his staff about the Obama administration that ended his Afghanistan command and army career.

“Regardless of how I judged the story for fairness or accuracy, responsibility was mine,” McChrystal writes in his new memoir, in which he speaks out for the first time since he resigned in a carefully worded denouncement of the story.

The Rolling Stone article anonymously quoted McChrystal’s aides as criticizing President Barack Obama’s team, including Vice President Joe Biden. Biden had disagreed with McChrystal’s strategy that called for more troops in Afghanistan. (More…)

Rep. Van Hollen, a Democrat, argued, “Yes, we have to do more cuts. And the president has been very clear, he put on the table $1.2 trillion dollars in cuts proposal combined with $1.2 trillion in revenue. The only reason we weren’t able to go forward with that was you had House Republicans deciding not to follow Speaker Boehner (More…)

Syrian President Assad Makes Rare Public Speech, Ignores International Demands to Step Down

The Associated Press:

Syrian President Bashar Assad on Sunday outlined his vision for a road map to end nearly 22 months of violence in Syria but also struck a defiant tone, calling on his countrymen to unite against “murderous criminals” whom he said are carrying out a foreign plot seeking to tear the nation apart.

In a one-hour speech to the nation in which he appeared confident and relaxed, Assad ignored international demands for him to step down and said he is ready to hold a dialogue but only with those “who have not betrayed Syria.” He offered a national reconciliation conference, elections and a new constitution but demanded regional and Western countries stop funding and arming rebels trying to overthrow him first.

The proposal, however, is unlikely to win acceptance from Syria’s opposition forces, including rebels on the ground, who have repeatedly said they will accept nothing less (More…)

Should Schools Help Grads Hide Negative Online Images From Potential Employers?

Some universities are helping grads with their job search by hiding what employers may find when they do a search online. Images of college students “having a good time” find their way onto the Internet increasingly with the rise of social media.

The first thing many employers do is perform a search of a job candidate’s name. An image of someone in a college newspaper versus a photo of someone partying can be the difference between scoring the job or well, unemployment.

On today’s Cashin’ In, the panel weighed in on whether schools should help students cover their tracks. Tracy Byrnes said, “This is basically saying there is no accountability (More…)

Dr. David Samadi joined America’s New HQ to discuss what you need to know about the potentially deadly virus.

This is the earliest the flu season has started since 2003-2004. Sadly, eight children have died from flu-associated complications during the 2012-2013 season. “We’re in deep trouble because the type of the flu that we have is the influenza A which is the H3N2,” Dr. Samadi explained.

This particular virus is aggressive and deadly, having already (More…)

Jon Hammar’s Father Speaks About Son’s Well-Being After Being Locked Up in Mexican Prison

Bill O’Reilly was set to have an interview with former Marine, Jon Hammar Jr., who was released from a Mexican prison just days before Christmas. Hammar served in Iraq and Afghanistan and returned with post-traumatic stress disorder. In August, Hammar was arrested in Mexico at the border when he declared that he was carrying an antique rifle.

For four months, the former Marine was held in a notoriously dangerous prison and spent much of that time chained to a bed. After being released, Hammar was hospitalized and has since returned to his parents’ home in Florida. Unable to do the interview with O’Reilly, his father Jon Hammar Sr. joined the Factor to speak on his behalf.

His father said, “I think the pressure got to him a little bit and he’s not doing real great (More…)

AZ Bill Would Ban Posing As Others Online, Regardless of Intent

If passed, an Arizona bill would ban individuals from posing as others online, joining about a dozen states with similar laws. This would include punishing users who create parody accounts on sites like Twitter and Facebook.

The state says it could help fight fraud and identity theft. However others, such as Judge Andrew Napolitano, say it’s unnecessary legislation. Acts of impersonation with the intent to do harm are punishable by laws already on the books.

This new bill, the judge says, would criminalize the impersonation attempt even if there was no harm done. “I would think the state has better things to do than get involved in this.”

The judge gave the example of a mother creating (More…)

Malkin Takes on “Phenomenal Hypocrisy” of Obama Supporters and Corporate Donors for Avoiding Tax Hikes

On Thursday it was reported that former VP Al Gore unsuccessfully pushed for his $500 million sale of Current TV to Al-Jazeera to be completed before the end of 2012 so he could avoid paying higher corporate tax rates that kicked in Jan. 1.

The tax rates were similar to the ones Gore pushed for while serving as vice president to Bill Clinton in the 1990s.

On America Live today, Fox News contributor Michelle Malkin explained that this isn’t the only example of people or organizations showing “hypocrisy” by legally avoiding the higher tax rates while supporting President Obama as he pushed for the wealthy and corporations to pay more during his reelection campaign. The detectives had their official IDs visible, sources say, but were still told to take their weapons outside. Gallagher, for one, believes it is.
