Pensacola International Airport is the largest market along the Gulf Coast between New Orleans and Jacksonville serving a market area with over two million residents. Since 2001, Pensacola has stimulated air travel to a record increase of 54% more business, military and leisure passengers utilizing the Pensacola International Airport. Airlines serving Pensacola: AirTran Airways, American Eagle, Continental, Delta Air Lines, United Express and US Airways. On November 9 of 2011, the Airport held their Terminal Building Dedication Ceremony honoring the completion of the $82M Terminal Expansion Project that began in 2006. Phase one was the construction of the new Rental Car Facilities that was completed in 2007 along with the new shuttle parking lot offering courtesy shuttle to the terminal. Phase two was the main terminal expansion and terminal area improvements. It consisted of the 90 ft ticketing expansion, a state-of-the-art in-line baggage screening system, restroom modifications to ensure ADA compliance, enlargement of the security checkpoint area from 1500 sq ft to 8000 sq ft allowing more room for the passenger screening process, baggage claim system improvements, new concession space, 10 new jet bridges along with additional gate capacity, terrazzo flooring, exterior and interior wayfinding signage, enhanced lighting, exterior landscaping, free luggage carts, filtered water-filling stations, additional charging stations, airport ambassadors, and mileage award system with The Paradies Shops and Republic Parking. As the economic engine in our region, the airport plays a significant role in economic development providing excellent air service to ten international hubs to anywhere in the world. The economic impact this airport provides to the region generates over 5,772 jobs and produces an annual direct and indirect impact of over $565 million. Pensacola International Airport served 1.5 million passengers in 2011, an increase of 8.5 percent compared to 2010. The sky is the limit as passenger traffic continues to climb as the 96th largest airport in the United States and remain as the largest airport between New Orleans and Jacksonville.
