Boustany Announces $1 Million Grant for Ike Recovery in Cameron Parish

Washington, D.C. – U.S. Representative Charles W. Boustany, Jr., (R-Southwest Louisiana), today announced a $1 million grant for the Cameron Parish to demolish more than 60 buildings too damaged by Hurricane Ike to be repaired.

“The people of Cameron Parish continue to rebuild, and this grant will help that ongoing process,” Boustany said.  “Clearing out damaged buildings allows people to rebuild their homes, return to Cameron permanently and get on with life here on the coast.”

Boustany announced the grant from FEMA as part of ongoing recovery efforts from Hurricane Gustav and Ike.  The $1,097,388.00 will be used to demolish 69 private properties, which pose hazards to public health and safety.  Approximately 300 properties were damaged beyond repair in Cameron Parish alone by Hurricane Ike.  The state will receive the grant, and then distribute it to the local government.
