In Sunday’s game against the Seahawks, Robert Griffin III admitted to left tackle Trent Williams that he tweaked his injured right knee during the first quarter, and that the injury scared him.

It was obvious to anyone watching that Griffin hurt his already-sprained knee when he rolled to the right, tried to plant on his right leg and throw across his body to Pierre Garcon in the end zone.

But NFL Network’s SoundFX had Williams mic’d up for the game, and picked up a conversation between the lineman and the quarterback on the sideline after the play.

The exchange went as follows:

Williams: Are you sure you’re all right, bro?

Griffin: Yeah, I’m going to be safe.

Williams: You tweaked it, when you were trying to back up?

Griffin : Yeah, my foot kind of went wer-wer.

Williams: Did that shock you a little bit?

Griffin: Yeah, scared the [bleep] out of me (laughs).

Williams: All right, be smart.

Griffin: I will. I promise.

Griffin played the next 2-1/2 quarters before he was injured more severely and was unable to continue.

It’s unclear whether Griffin tore his LCL and/or ACL on that play in the first quarter, or on a fourth-quarter sack or on the following play when he scrambled for a loose ball and his knee buckled. Or at any other time during the game, for that matter.
