The St. Augustine Lighthouse & Museum is proud to present the next Sea Your History Weekend on January 18-19, 2013. Bring the whole family as the Lighthouse welcomes Betsy Bowers, Deputy Director of Museum Education at the Smithsonian Early Enrichment Center. Everyone can go beyond the ordinary and be a part of history as your family will: • Help our archaeologists unlock the secrets of long-lost shipwrecks • Lend a hand and build a boat from centuries gone by • Learn from one of the Smithsonian’s leading education experts The weekend kicks off on Friday, January 18 with the Lost Ships Tour, 3-6 P.M. Stories unfold as you and our archaeologists explore the artifacts of the Lost Ships of St. Augustine while your children experience how and why their history matters with Betsy Bowers. On Saturday morning at 9 A.M. don’t miss Our Master Boat Builder as he shares the techniques and history of traditional wooden boatbuilding. Watch, ask questions, or even chip in! The adventure continues with interactive, hands-on activities guided by Betsy Bowers. This will be a great time for the entire family to come together and learn through play. Don’t miss Enjoying Objects and Artifacts with Children – Saturday, January 19, starting at 11 A.M.

Lost Ships Tour – Friday, February 15, 3- 6 P.M. –Help our archaeologists unlock the secrets of long-lost shipwrecks Traditional Wooden Boatbuilding – Saturday, February 16, 9 A.M. – Be more than a visitor as you and our artisans build a boat from centuries gone by Smithsonian Presentation – Saturday, February 16, 11 A.M. – Get to know the personalities who make the Smithsonian the world’s leader in research and exploration

Night Fest will be held on March 2, 2012 from 4 p.m. until 9 p.m. The Junior Service League’s 5k and Fun Run kicks off the Night Fest at 4:30 p.m. See the historic, French, lighthouse lens come alive at dusk in the lighthouse tower and enjoy the stars coming out. A special program on navigation by the stars will be held in the Lighthouse Gallery with support from Sea Your History and the Smithsonian Institution Affiliations Program. Night Fest is the beginning of a new local cooking competition starting at 6 P.M., which will feature a signature local cuisine. This year’s competition will focus on Minorcan Pilau. And a cash prize is available for the lucky winners. Entries are limited to 10 local restaurants or individuals with a prize Pilau recipe…so sign up early. . Festival goers will also be able to purchase tickets to sample the Cooking Competition and cast their votes for their favorites.
