Since 1984, the SBTDC has helped over 125,000 small to mid-sized businesses start and grow. In that time, entrepreneurs have become increasingly important to local, state and national economies. Small companies account for a significant share of North Carolina's economic production and hiring. These firms make up 98% of the state's employers and account for 48% of private sector jobs. Nearly all net creation of new jobs since 1980 has occured in small businesses less than five years old.
