Gingrey provision honoring veterans' hero passes House

The House of Representatives voted today to pass the Dignified Burial of Veterans Act, S. 3202, which includes Rep. Gingrey’s legislation designating the Department of Veterans Affairs facility in Carrollton the “Trinka Davis Veterans Village.” Sen. Johnny Isakson was instrumental in shepherding this provision through the Senate. The facility, funded by the Trinka Davis Foundation, will serve 3,000 veterans and enable them to receive first-class treatment in their home community.

“When our servicemen and women return from combat, they deserve first-rate treatment, whether it is medical care, emotional support, or assistance transitioning to civilian life,” Gingrey said. “ Just as our military members answered the call to serve our country, Trinka Davis answered the call to serve veterans. It is my honor to recognize Trinka Davis and the work her foundation continues to do.”

"I am proud that Congress agreed today to officially designate the VA facility in Carrollton as the Trinka Davis Veterans Village,” Isakson said.  “Ms. Davis selflessly gave of herself to serve our nation's veterans. I am glad that we can honor her mission with the passage of this legislation."

Katherine “Trinka” Davis established the Trinka Davis Foundation in 2004. Davis bequeathed nearly her entire estate—more than $18 million—to her foundation to aid military members in their recovery and treatment.

The facility opened in September for outpatient treatment. In the coming months, it will expand to include a 42-bed community living center.
