KINGSTON MAKES GOOD ON SEC CHAMPIONSHIP WAGER
Presents Tuscaloosa Congresswoman with Rockingham Fried Pecans
Washington, D.C.,
Dec 14, 2012 -
For Congressman Jack Kingston (R-GA), Georgia’s loss in the SEC Championship game last month meant more than losing a chance for the Bulldogs to take another national title. The hard-fought loss meant he was at the losing end of a friendly wager. Confident his Bulldogs would upset the 2nd-ranked Crimson Tide, Kingston wagered some Rockingham fried pecans against a Tuscaloosa favorite: Dreamland Bar-b-que ribs. For most of the game he could almost taste the prize but in the end the Bulldogs came up short. This week it was time to make good on that bet. Decked out in an Alabama tie and Bear Bryant hound’s-tooth fedora, Kingston met Congresswoman Terri Sewell (D-AL) on the steps of the Capitol to present the victor with her prize. “The Dawgs played magnificently,” said Kingston. “While they came up short, it was one of the best games of the season. The fact that we’re not in a BCS bowl game underscores the need for a playoff system. On a happier note, I’m sure Terri will want to make this bet every year just to have the chance to enjoy some more Rockingham Fried Pecans.” In a sign of SEC unity and southern hospitality, Mrs. Sewell showed up to the payoff in red and black to honor the Bulldogs. In that spirit, Kingston urged all Georgia fans to join him in cheering for Alabama in the BCS National Championship Game next month. “It’s time to come together in support of the best conference in the nation,” Kingston said. “Roll Tide!” |
