Fraud & Legal Affairs Unit
The Fraud and Legal Affairs Unit is responsible for ensuring the integrity of public assistance and care offered through various programs at the Department of Social Services.
Investigations
The Fraud and Legal Affairs Unit conducts investigations of:
- Fraud referrals
- Front-end detection referrals
- Various computer matches received from New York State Office of Temporary and Disability Assistance

Fair Hearings
This unit represents the agency at fair hearings for the following programs:
- Adult Protective Services
- Child Care
- Food Stamps

- Public Assistance

Resource Recovery
This unit is also responsible for resource recovery in the case of overpayment, fraud, or liens
Policy
This unit assists other units within the agency by providing advice for various policy, procedure, or contractual questions and assists with and / or recommends training where indicated to ensure compliance with state and federal regulation.
