Road Patrol
The Road Patrol Division of the Sheriff’s Office is the most visible of all the divisions and can usually be observed operating patrol vehicles in the New York State Sheriff’s traditional red and white colors. The Sheriff’s Office provides police protection 24 hours a day to the residents and visitors to Schuyler County.

Division Responsibilities
The Road Patrol Division consists of a lieutenant, three sergeants and 11 deputy sheriffs that handle emergency and non-emergency complaints, investigate crimes and motor vehicle accidents, and assist the Criminal Investigations Division with investigations. They also serve civil process papers and warrants.

Deputy Responsibilities
In addition to their regular duties, deputies are also assigned to the K-9 Unit, D.A.R.E. program, STOP-DWI program, bicycle safety, and as field training officers. All deputies are also certified in the use of Automated External Defibrillators, which they carry in the patrol vehicles.

Deputies also provide police services for the Sirius at the Glen Nextel Cup Race held at Watkins Glen International Race Track, which is the largest single-day sporting event in New York State. Police services are also provided for other major events in the county such as the Finger Lakes Wine Festival, The Grand Prix Festival, and many other festivals held each year throughout the county.
