Boating & Fishing Insiders

Terry Tomalin & Terry Gibson

As the outdoors editor for the state's largest daily newspaper for more than 20 years, Terry Tomalin has fished and boated his way from Pensacola to Key West. An avid inshore and offshore angler, scuba diver, power boater and sailor, he has traveled the world and still believes Florida is the best place on earth. Terry Gibson, raised in South Florida's woods and waters, is one of the state's most prolific outdoor writers. He has spent his life fishing, surfing, diving and hunting across the world. And he's firmly of the belief that there's no place like home.

The Kississimee Convention & Visitors Bureau just raised the bass fishing stakes by $12,500 in Osceola County.

The angler who catches the biggest bass, reports it and releases it according to rules of the Florida Fish & Wildlife Conservation Commission's TrophyCatch Program during the program's first year, will win $10,000. If fishing with a registered guide, the skipper will earn $2,500. There's going to be a gold rush on at least two of Florida's top bass lakes, lakes Kissimmee and Toho!

Anglers can register here with the TrophyCatch program. Guides, click here to register.

TrophyCatch is designed to incent anglers to release largemouths eight pounds and heavier so the fish can pass on their good genes, and so another angler has a shot at that lunker. FWC and partners offer many other prizes for registered anglers who report and release their trophy fish.

Register now, and think about a bass-fishing quest to Osceola County. You're fishing just a short way from the Orlando airport.
