WASHINGTON (December 13 – Congressman Spencer Bachus (AL-6) will serve as Chairman Emeritus of the Financial Services Committee and return to active service on the Judiciary Committee when the 113^th Congress convenes in January.

“The issues that come to these committees are important to the people that I serve in Alabama, and I look forward to having the opportunity to formulate good public policy that will solve challenges facing our nation,” said Congressman Bachus.

As Chairman Emeritus of the Financial Services Committee, Bachus will continue in a senior role on a panel where he has served as Chairman (2011-2012) and Republican Ranking Member (2007-2010). Bachus, the first Alabamian to chair the committee in more than 70 years, has completed a six-year leadership term.

During his chairmanship, Bachus guided major bills including the Jumpstart Our Business Startups (JOBS) Act, export promotion legislation, and flood insurance reform to bipartisan enactment into law and led the committee’s rigorous oversight of the Dodd-Frank Act.

In the upcoming session, Congressman Bachus will resume active service on the Judiciary Committee. The second oldest standing committee in Congress, the Judiciary Committee deals with legal and constitutional issues, technology policy, homeland security, and immigration reform among many matters.

“The Judiciary Committee is at the center of some of the most significant debates facing our country and I am excited about the opportunity to be an active participant in its proceedings once again,” said Bachus.

During his leadership tenure on the Financial Services Committee, Bachus was required to take leave from the Judiciary Committee and the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee. He will remain on leave from the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee.
