It took a 16-hour negotiating session to finally brings the sides together and save the NHL season. It will take a few days for the agreement to be ratified by the owners and the players, but training camps are expected to start later this week and the season (48 or 50 games) will start between Jan. 15-19. Read more »

Are the NHL and the NHL Players Association close to reaching a settlement that would end the 112-day lockout and get the season started in two weeks?

Many media outlets covering the talks in New York indicate a deal could happen soon, perhaps as early as today.

After federal mediator Scot Beckenbaugh spent all day Friday meeting separately with the sides in an attempt to bridge the gap in their differences, the league and the union are meeting face-to-day Saturday afternoon.

There have been false alarms in this process before, so many are taking a cautious approach.
