Thank you to everyone who donated items in our linen drive to help Hurricane Sandy victims. Items we collected with the Greater Steuben Chapter Red Cross Kids Youth Group are being delivered to those in need by Helping Hands and Beyond. If you haven’t had a chance to donate new linens and would still like to, please feel free to drop them off at any of our district offices.
- I was pleased to see today’s Hurricane Sandy relief bill pass the House with such strong bipartisan support. With these funds, impacted families and small businesses will get the relief they need to continue the rebuilding process. This is the kind of support we need to be showing to those devastated by the storm.
- Happy to have my family in Washington with me yesterday during the swearing-in ceremony for the 113th Congress.

I spoke on the House floor today to not only voice my continued support for Hurricane Sandy relief, but add my voice to the many on both sides of the aisle that support a vote on the relief bill. Countless families are still suffering and we need to be there for our fellow citizens in their time of need.- My vote tonight secures tax cuts for 99 percent of our district on a permanent basis. Though we didn’t cut spending or deal with the Medicare and Social Security crisis as we had hoped, we acted to protect as many families and small businesses as possible on a permanent basis from the President and Democrats’ desire to raise taxes. I still believe the answer lies in cutting spending and reforming Medicare and Social Security to save it for generations to come. Sooner or later, we will have to address these issues and I for one support doing this as soon as possible.

I do not support the President’s Executive Order for pay increases for members of Congress. This is not a step toward restoring fiscal responsibility in our government or our country and I will work to prevent the pay raise for Congress scheduled for March 2013 by President Obama.- We are so saddened to hear of the senseless tragedy in Webster today. Please keep these families in your prayers. Thank God for our first responders, both volunteer and professional. Heroes all.

Looking forward to be joining as co-chair of the House Manufacturing Caucus in the 113th Congress:- I would have voted in favor of the legislation to keep the current tax rates for 99 percent of our district. While tax increases are not the solution to our debt, currency and entitlement crisis, I was willing to let taxes go up on millionaires in order to protect as many families and small businesses as possible from the scheduled tax increases. As it stands, all families and small businesses wil...l be hit with tax increases in just two weeks.
President Obama and Democrats believe raising taxes on the top two percent solves our fiscal crisis. I adamantly disagree. In fact when tax increases are enacted they will do nothing to address the debt and entitlement crisis now upon us. The House has already passed legislation earlier this year to prevent the tax increases. However, I will continue to work across the aisle with both Democrats and Republicans to protect as many families and small businesses as possible from the Democrats' impending tax increases.
I worry we will not seriously begin to address the debt and entitlement crisis our nation faces until after the Democrats' misguided belief in tax increases as the solution proves to be a failure. The longer we wait to address spending reform, the worse the problem gets and more Americans are put at risk.See More - Thank you to everyone who attended our town halls on Saturday in Corning, Penn Yan, Phelps and Watkins Glen. I always appreciate hearing your thoughts during these open, face-to-face conversations and we will continue to hold them throughout the district.

As the healing process continues following Friday’s tragedy in CT, I want to share some information from my colleague from Pennsylvania, Congressman Tim Murphy, who specialized in child psychology prior to serving in Congress. Please share with parents, teachers, friends – anyone who might find these suggestions helpful when talking to children about what happened in CT.Rep. Tom Reed shared a link.
