H.Con.Res 289 is expected to be considered on Wednesday, June 30, 2010, under suspension of the rules, requiring a two-thirds majority vote for passage. This legislation was introduced by Rep. Elijah Cummings (D-MD) on June 24, 2010.

H.Con.Res. 289 would make the following correction: In section 4(b), strike 'Coast Guard and Maritime Transportation Act of 2004' the second place it appears and insert 'Coast Guard and Maritime Transportation Act of 2006'.

The House is scheduled to consider H.R. 3360, the Cruise Vessel Security and Safety Act, today, Wednesday, June 30, 2010.  H.R. 3360 requires cruise ship owners to comply with certain regulations meant to address safety issues.

This resolution would allow the House to amend H.R. 3360 with the technical correction and sending the overall measure back to the Senate.  This bill would allow for the Cruise Vessel Security and Safety Act to clear the House, and separately adopt the technical correction by way of this resolution
