Rokita Statement on Passage of Workforce Investment Improvement Act

(Washington, D.C.) – U.S. Rep. Todd Rokita today issued the following statement after the Workforce Investment Improvement Act, H.R. 4297, was referred favorably out of the House Committee on Education and the Workforce.

“With thousand of Hoosiers, and millions of Americans still unemployed, Congress must begin the serious business of reforming the bloated and ineffective programs that waste taxpayer dollars and largely fail to provide useful help to its citizens.

The Workforce Investment Improvement Act is the type of reform we need.  It streamlines and consolidates overlapping programs across all levels of government.  I am especially pleased that my proposal to require the Department of Labor to actually cut spending and staff levels when they close programs was included in this legislation.

H.R. 4297 also gives states more direct control over workforce funds –  fostering innovation at the state and local levels, where it happens best,” Rokita said.

The Workforce Investment Act was referred favorably by the House Committee on Education and the Workforce on Thursday, June 7, 2012.  During the markup of the legislation, Representative Rokita offered remarks in support of this legislation.  Representative Rokita’s remarks are available for viewing below.
