The Virginia State Bar publishes pamphlets and handbooks on law-related issues for Virginia's lawyers and Virginia's citizens. Virginia Lawyer Referral Service

For those seeking an attorney, the VSB runs a referral service that provides callers to the service with the name of an attorney who practices in the caller’s requested area of the law, and in the caller's geographic area. This pamphlet describes how the service works.

Senior Citizen's Handbook

The Senior Citizens Handbook is a resource for seniors, their families, and their caregivers to provide an overview of and contact information for opportunities and choices facing senior citizens today, with a summary of how specific laws affect Virginia's elder citizens and practical advice on issues such as Medicaid, Alzheimer’s Disease, landlord-tenant relations, and much more. There is also an extensive list of community-service organizations that detail the various services available to senior citizens.

The Fourth Edition of The Virginia Handbook for Guardians and Conservators: A Practical Guide for Court-Appointed Guardians and Conservators of Adults is now available. The handbook is over 100 pages of useful information for all those who are serving as guardians or conservators.

This handbook is produced by the Virginia Guardianship Association with the intent to provide information to enhance the quality of guardianship services available in Virginia.

Professional Guidelines

The Professional Guidelines is published each fall and contains the rules and regulations of the bar, including the Rules of Professional Conduct, attorney trust account regulations, mandatory continuing legal education regulations and forms, Virginia Consumer Real Estate Settlement Protection Act regulations, and portions of the Rules of the Supreme Court that outline VSB governance and the procedure for disciplining attorneys.

The Revised Handbook on Appellate Advocacy in the Supreme Court of Virginia and the Court of Appeals of Virginia

The Appellate Advocacy handbook is designed to assist members of the bar in preparing themselves for appeals in the Supreme Court and Court of Appeals of Virginia. This handbook, however, is not a substitute for, or replacement of, Parts 5 and 5A of the Rules of Court. The handbook contains information and suggestions intended to promote efficiency and improve appellate advocacy in these courts. It may not reflect new revisions to the Rules of Court. Every lawyer contemplating an appeal to the Supreme Court or Court of Appeals of Virginia should become thoroughly familiar with the Rules of Court.
