    A day after their chances for a Pizza Hut Wabash Valley Classic threepeat were dashed in an emotional loss to Robinson, the Patriots came out with a vengeance Saturday evening, scoring the first 17 points of the game and downing the Lakers 68-40.

    Few coaches knew where to point when declaring a favorite for the 2012 Pizza Hut Wabash Valley Classic, with up to half the 16-team field being pegged as championship contenders.
    Because of blizzard warnings for today, the popular boys high school basketball tournament has been postponed one day, or in the case of the final day, from Saturday to Monday.
    Regardless, 10 of the 16 teams will take a winning record into the tournament at Terre Haute South, with Linton (5-0) and Rockville (7-0) the only unbeatens remaining after Casey (6-1) and Robinson (9-1) were dealt setbacks in the week before Christmas.

    Due to blizzard warnings in the Wabash Valley and beyond, organizers have postponed the start of the Pizza Hut Wabash Valley Classic.

    Scheduled to begin on Wednesday, the popular high school boys basketball will now begin on Dec. 27 at Terre Haute South.

    The Wabash Valley Football Coaches Association, as has been mentioned before, is a ground-breaking organization in itself, organizing schools that might be 100 miles apart — Cumberland to Cascade, for instance, or Turkey Run to Olney — into a unit that puts on an all-star week and hands out college scholarships every spring.
    The WVFCA also chooses the All-Wabash Valley team every year, and in doing so this year has come up with something else that’s new: the 30-player first team includes a female for the first time.
