McMorris Rodgers Endorses "Cut, Cap, & Balance"

Renews Call for “Game Changer” in Debt Ceiling Negotiations at

Republican Leadership Press Conference

House Will Vote on Plan Next Week

Washington, D.C. - Rep. Cathy McMorris Rodgers (R-WA), Vice Chair of the House Republican Conference, endorsed the “Cut, Cap, and Balance” plan to get America’s fiscal house in order at a House Republican Leadership press conference today.

“It is very important that any increase in the debt ceiling be accompanied by spending cuts and reforms in the way the federal government spends money,” said Rep. McMorris Rodgers at today’s press conference.  “House Republicans are united around a Balanced Budget Amendment.  Forty-nine out of fifty states have to balance their budgets.  The real question is whether or not the President recognizes that there must be a game-changer, that there must be a change in the way the government spends money.  I am pleased, too, that we’re moving forward on ‘Cut, Cap and Balance.’  It’s our plan – our serious plan – to get us back on track.”

The House will vote on “Cut, Cap, and Balance” next week.   The plan would take the following actions:

1. Cut - Substantial cuts in spending that will reduce the deficit next year and thereafter.

2. Cap - Enforceable spending caps that will put federal spending on a path to a balanced budget.

3. Balance - Congressional passage of a Balanced Budget Amendment to the U.S. Constitution -- but only if it includes both a spending limitation and a super-majority for raising taxes, in addition to balancing revenues and expenses.
