- I'm frustrated and angry House Republican leaders once again are bringing our country to the brink because of their Tea Party’s absolute opposition to having millionaires and billionaires pay a single dollar more in taxes. The notion that legislation can only get to the House floor if only Republicans can pass it without Democratic votes is nonsense. Even former Republican Speaker Hastert knew goo...d deal-making took participation from both sides of the aisle. The solution is simple: Republican leaders need to return to Plan A and get back to the negotiating table with the President. Republicans and Democrats can pass this bill next week if Republican leadership stops catering to the most extreme elements of the Tea Party. I am willing and eager to work with anyone, Democrat and Republican, to find a balanced approach to reduce our deficit and move our country forward to economic stability and success.See More

Repub Plan B RAISES taxes on most Americans and doesn't cut spending. We need Plan A and responsible balance bw revenue & spending cuts.Let's work together & reach a deal for the American people. (http://goo.gl/yuYnj)- Today, I announced plans to introduce the a new, improved Assault Weapons Ban with Rep. Carolyn McCarthy (NY) when Congress returns in January.
I have been supportive of reinstating the AWB since I was a state senator in Colorado. Following the tragic shootings at Columbine and the movie theater in Aurora, CO and most recently at the elementary school in Connecticut, I have been coordinating c...losely with members of the House and Sen. Dianne Feinstein to prepare a responsible bill to enact an assault weapons ban which will outlaw the future sale of assault weapons while respecting the 2nd Amendment rights of responsible gun owners by exempting many firearms used for sport, hunting and personal defense.
This bill will be the companion measure to the bill being introduced in the Senate by Sen. Diane Feinstein (CA).
It's time to do more. It is Congress' responsibility to lead, and it's time for me to take action. This is about crime control and doing what we can to deter and prevent the kinds of tragedies we've experienced all too often in the last few years.
I've heard from so many law enforcement officers, people in my district and across Colorado and the country who want us to move forward in a responsible way limiting access to weapons that belong on battlefields. Our plan to renew the assault weapons ban takes these dangerous 'weapons of war' off the streets while protecting the rights of responsible gun owners and keeping our citizens safe.See More - I'm angry and heartbroken at the news of another horrifying and senseless school shooting. My deepest and heartfelt prayers and thoughts are with the children, families, teachers, school officials, law enforcement, first responders and the entire community of Newtown who are impacted by this tragedy. Please know all of us in Colorado are here to support and provide comfort and strength to Connecticut in the days, weeks and months ahead.

Today, I made a speech on the floor of the House urging Republican House Leadership to promptly allow a vote to cut taxes for the middle class and to extend the Wind Energy Production Tax Credit. [To view the video of the speech, click bel...ow.]
Last week, I signed a petition asking Republican Leadership to bring a Senate-passed plan to lower taxes for every American on the first $250,000 of income as well as fix the Alternative Minimum Tax and extend the child tax credit. Thus far, House Republican Leadership refuses to allow a vote on the tax cut plan which has bipartisan support and the President said he will sign.
I will continue to fight for an extension of the wind energy Production Tax Credit (PTC) which will save thousands of private sector jobs here in Colorado and across the nation.
We can't wait to pass these measures. Americans need certainty their taxes won't go up next year and our wind industry small businesses need certainty to invest for the future. These measures have bipartisan support and the President will sign them. Let's work together and get these done.See More- Don't forget - this Saturday is my annual District Office Open House from Noon-2pm.
