DEMOCRAT APPROPRIATORS SHUT DOWN AFTER REPUBLICANS TRY AND INCREASE OIL PRODUCTION

House Conference Secretary John Carter (TX-31), a member of the House Appropriations Committee, made the following statement today after Democrats on the House Appropriations Committee abruptly shut down work on two major spending bills because Republicans tried to force a vote on an amendment that would provide more American energy for Americans.
“While Americans are losing sleep over the soaring cost of gasoline, Democrats are halting any attempt to bring relief before the 4th of July recess.  And they are doing it by shutting down critical and necessary work on two major spending bills.

”Regrettably, it is the American people who will feel the sting of the Democrats latest attempt to block legislation that would provide any relief at the pump for American families.

“Republicans have a plan that would bring lower gas prices by increasing domestic supply, but Democrats have shut us down at every opportunity.  I hope that they will stop listening to the left-wing radicals in their party and start listening to the American people. “

Note:  After Ranking Member Jerry Lewis (R-CA) and Rep. John Peterson (R-PA) offered an amendment to lift the 27-year ban on responsible deep-sea energy exploration, Chairman David Obey (D-WI) abruptly ended work on the Labor-HHS-Education and Agriculture spending bills.
