Carter Blasts Senate Vote to Raise Taxes in a Recession

Carter Blasts Senate Vote to Raise Taxes in a Recession

(WASHINGTON, DC) – Senate Democrats and the Obama Administration could drive the nation back into full-fledged recession through a massive tax increase passed today in the Senate, according to House Republican Conference Secretary John Carter.

“Unemployment has remained above 8% since 2009, and the last thing American workers need is a tax increase on the small businesses that provide so many of our jobs,” says Carter.   “All we are asking is to keep tax rates where they are for everybody and let our economy recover, but the appetite of Harry Reid and his Senate Democrats for ever-larger pieces of the free market will apparently never be satisfied.”

Senate Democrats rejected a GOP proposal to preserve current rates for all taxpayers 45-54 before passing the tax hike by a 51-48 margin.

The House of Representatives is scheduled to vote on the tax rate extension next week, where the Republican majority is expected to renew current rates for all Americans.
