Senator Stabenow Announces Support for Michigan Law Enforcement
Rural Development Grants Will Help Replace Aging Patrol Vehicles
U.S. Senator Debbie Stabenow, Chairwoman of the Senate Committee on Agriculture, Nutrition and Forestry, today announced rural development grants for three Michigan law enforcement departments to replace their aging patrol vehicles. Grants were awarded to the Lake County Sheriff's Department, the city of Norway Police Department, and the Presque Isle Sheriff's Department. The grants, provided by the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Rural Development initiative, will be used to replace aging patrol vehicles that are well past their prime service lifetime.
"Our law enforcement officers provide critical, courageous service to communities across Michigan," said Stabenow. "These new patrol cars will allow Michigan's law enforcement officers to continue to protect thousands of people. I will continue to work closely with Michigan communities to help ensure officers have access to the tools they need to do their jobs and protect the public."
Senator Stabenow, as Chairwoman of the Senate Committee on Agriculture, Nutrition and Forestry, has jurisdiction over Rural Development and works closely with community leaders and the Department of Agriculture to help secure grants for law enforcement agencies throughout Michigan. Senator Stabenow has long advocated on behalf of Michigan's law enforcement personnel and is a member of the Senate Law Enforcement Caucus. Stabenow has long supported the COPS Hiring and Justice Assistance Grant initiatives, which have helped state, local and tribal law enforcement agencies nationwide hire and retain law enforcement personnel.
