Please bless, comfort, and strengthen those who are sick and suffering. Especially the families who lost loved ones in the Connecticut murders. And the firemen who were killed in Michigan–and their families and loved ones also. Satan and evil are running wild in the world now–as they always have done.

Please bless and protect those who defend and protect us–our Military and Law Enforcement personnel. Please bless the good doctors, nurses, and other medical workers who help and heal us in our times of illness and accidents.

Merry Christmas to all and may God bless you! 2 years ago, I wouldn’t have said that, much less show any belief in God or Jesus. I was an atheist, or an agnostic to make a concession to you. God didn’t exist, and Jesus was certainly a “myth”. Without going into detail into “why”, I accepted a challenge to enter school and study Christianity, full of curiousity as to why it was a strong belief and to answer a ton of questions I had. I spent almost 2 years studying and graduated “academically, an outstanding student”. I not only studied my assignments, do my homework and pass my tests, but studied historical documents and scientific papers on my own at my own expense. I was full of skepticism but open to learning. (If anyone wondered why I hadn’t posted in 2 years, now you know.) I wanted proof, not myths and assumptions. Give me the facts. So what has this atheist learned in two years of intensive study? God exists, and Jesus is no myth! He lived, preached, did miracles, was crucified and rose. There is so much historical data out there to overwhelm a student. Data you won’t find on TV documentaties and news articles. 2 questions I wanted answers to: If Jesus didn’t exist, why did 11 disciples, once cowardly and very depressed, die horribly for a lie? No one does that…not 11. Why didn’t the Jews just produce his body and nip the Way in the bud? Paul once wrote that there are 500 people out there who witnessed Him, ask them. Remember, the rise of Christianity began with lots of people who were there in Jerusalem and witnessed the events. For anyone interested in 2 “starter” books, let me recommend, “The Case for Christ”, by Lee Strobel (a once atheist who started the book to refute Jesus) and “More than a Carpenter” by Josh McDowell (an atheist too). Then, if interested, go on from there. I’m back what I do best, the medical field, but, today, my heart is full of joy and gladness on this special day. May your new year bring much blessings!

#20 graysonret: Thanks so much for your testimony. It is very difficult to describe one’s religious/spiritual conversion and/or confirmation (in a very real sense). I would think that serious study, such as in your case, would lead to Belief in God and specifically Christ, but too often people look at the Bible and find a few (apparent) contradictions, or look at Christians and see that we’re not perfect, and condemn the entire religion because of our human imperfections (which I think proves the case for Christianity almost more than anything else).

But, I could recommend some other books (besides the Bible, of course) if anyone else is open to considering Christianity, or at least a belief in God.

Another Josh McDowell book, “Evidence That Demands a Verdict.”

C.S. Lewis: “Mere Christianity.” And all the rest of his “Christian Apologetics” books.

Also, a survey of the “Intelligent Design” theories, “By Design: Science and the Search for God,” by Larry Witham.

Also, a website for the “Intelligent Design” viewpoint is http://www.reasons.org

I’ve personally been reading a lot lately about the destruction of Herod’s temple in approximately 70 A.D., which Jesus had prophesied. And relating that to Revelations.

    Just sayin’ …

    Morning,

Hadn’t had a chance to share this with everyone before Christmas so am going to take time to share it now …

Hope you enjoy it and the thought that is behind it as well …

‘Twas the night before Christmas & out on the ranch
The pond was froze over & so was the branch.
The snow was piled up belly-deep to a mule.
The kids were all home on vacation from school,
And happier young folks you never did see-
Just all sprawled around a-watchin’ TV.
Then suddenly, some time around 8 o’clock,
There came a surprise that gave them a shock!
The power went off, the TV went dead!
When Grandpa came in from out in the shed
With an armload of wood, the house was all dark.
“Just what I expected,” they heard him remark
“Them power line wires must be down from the snow.
Seems sorta like times on the ranch long ago.”
“I’ll hunt up some candles,” said Mom. “With their light,
And the fireplace, I reckon we’ll make out all right.”
The teen-agers all seemed enveloped in gloom.
Then Grandpa came back from a trip to his room,
Uncased his old fiddle & started to play
That old Christmas song about bells on a sleigh.
Mom started to sing, & 1st thing they knew
Both Pop & the kids were all singing it, too.
They sang Christmas carols, they sang “Holy Night,”
Their eyes all a-shine in the ruddy firelight.
They played some charades Mom recalled from her youth,
And Pop read a passage from God’s Book of Truth.
They stayed up till midnight-and, would you believe,
The youngsters agreed ’twas a fine Christmas Eve.
    Grandpa rose early, some time before dawn;
And when the kids wakened, the power was on..
“The power company sure got the line repaired quick,”
Said Grandpa – & no one suspected his trick.
Last night, for the sake of some old-fashioned fun,
He had pulled the main switch – the old Son-of-a-Gun!
