Salam Alikom Current Television

Current TV So long Current TV and thanks for all the fish! Or perhaps salam alikom might be more appropriate considering the low rated, hard-left station has just been purchased by Al Jazeera, a Middle East news giant owned by the government of Qatar.

For those who have never heard of Current TV (the vast majority of you no doubt), this was the television channel originally founded by Al Gore, who appeared often on various broadcasts to spout liberal nonsense to all 23 of its regular viewers. The MediaDecoder Blog of this NY Times had this to say of the now-defunct station:

Current was conceived in 2005 after Mr. Gore and another co-founder, Joel Hyatt, bought the small cable news channel Newsworld International. After several years in obscurity showing viewer-submitted videos and documentaries, Current tacked to the left in 2011 with the hiring of MSNBC’s Keith Olbermann. A year later, Mr. Olbermann was fired, but a channel made in his image remained, with Mr. Spitzer, Jennifer Granholm and other liberal pundits as hosts. But on a typical night last year, just 42,000 people watched their shows, according to Nielsen.

First, I think it would be pertinent to point to the fact that Gore rushed to close the sale to Al Jazeera before year-end. The goal of course was to avoid paying higher taxes. While Gore, along with the vast majority of other Democratic leaders, has many times decried those “tax cuts for the rich,” it certainly has not hindered him, as it has other wealthy liberal politicians, from enjoying the benefits of Bush-era rates. Of course, most of the tax cuts went to the middle class, as even President Obama has admitted, which is why those rates are about to be made permanent for 99% of the country. But I digress.

The real question is, what’s next for Al Gore after this epic fail? Rumor has it (from at least one unknown source) that Gore will take that $100 million (gained, no doubt, through the sale of Qatari oil) and start his own jam company, “Current Currants.” Okay, perhaps not, but you have to admit, it’s a great idea.

100 Billion Alien Planets in Milky Way Galaxy (Open Thread)

According to a new report published in the Astrophysical Journal, the Milky Way Galaxy may have at least 100 Billion alien planets. Perhaps even double that according to John Johnson of Cal Tech and lead author Jonathan Swift. Since 2009, the Kepler Space Telescope has discovered some 2,300 possible planets. Most of these being large, gas giants like Jupiter, orbiting about M-Dwarf stars, the most common in our galaxy. Scientists, like Abel Mendez of the Planetary Habitability Laboratory at the University of Puerto Rico, predict that the first ′Earth twin′ planet may be discovered sometime in 2013 or 2014. Kepler has already begun to discover Earth-sized planets in the ′Green Zone′ of some stars, that being the distance from a star where moderate temperatures allow for the possibility of liquid water.

Obama Swimming Caption Contest!

President Obama has released his favorite photos from 2012, and boy is this good material for the next several weeks of caption contests. When a man’s ego is soooo big, he just doesn’t realize how ridiculous he looks.

The official White House caption for this photo reads: “A nice way to celebrate the New Year for the President was to jump in the ocean in his native state of Hawaii. He was on his annual Christmas vacation with family and friends, and went swimming at Pyramid Rock Beach in Kaneohe Bay.” Surely you can do better.

I stand with Fox News

I am an XM subscriber, and I am very disappointed. Many of my friends and family members have XM Radio in their vehicles, and they are extremely disappointed. After a decision enforced in the past day or two, XM Radio has removed Fox News Talk Radio from their channel line up. This is the cause of our disappointment, and we will likely be canceling their subscriptions.

Al Gore sells Current TV to Al-Jazeera

Al Gore has sold his failing cable network, Current TV, to Al-Jazeera yesterday for a reported sum of $400 Million dollars. The news service funded by the Emir of Qatar has been seeking a way to crash into America′s television market. Current TV has been available in some 60 million American homes, though audiences average less than 1% of that, about 42,000 viewers. Time Warner Cable has announced that it will drop the network from their service, scratching some 9 million homes off the list. Al-Jazeera, known for providing Al Qaeda and other radical Islamic groups and mullahs a voice, may clean house discarding the ultra-Left Wing line up of Current TV hosts like Joy Behar, Jennifer Granholm, Eliot Spitzer, Bill Press and Stephanie Miller. Gore, along with his partners, Joel Hyatt and Ron Burkle, may walk away with a cool $100 Million in profit. Glenn Beck tried to buy Current TV, but his offer was rejected.

Fiscal Cliff Debacle: Winners and Losers

So, the fiscal cliff ‘crisis’ is now officially over. Congress has passed a last minute deal that raised taxes on a few wealthy people without cutting spending in any way. After President Obama and Speaker Boehner, in 2011, failed to reach agreement on the ‘Grand Bargain’, which would have raised taxes but also cut entitlements, and after the House last month failed to pass Plan B, we can now get ready for the next artificial crisis in a few months, when spending will be examined, and the debt ceiling fight, which will see if the House will actually demand some type of deficit reduction measures to raise the debt limit. So, after this two month debacle we have all witnessed, who won and who lost?

Doomsday Preppers – Prepared, Not Scared

I was almost disappointed with last night′s episode of Doomsday Preppers on NatGeo TV. Instead of the program being about supersized shelters, National Geographic aired ′Prepared, Not Scared′, which follows the activities of two preppers. Bryan in Florida has a bug-out farm and plans to grow tobacco and sugar cane for bartering. Christine in Virginia who is worried about a tsunami being caused by the Cumbre Vieja volcano in the Canary Islands blowing up. So let us see who has the better preps?
