Mar 15, 2012

(Washington, D.C.) – Congressman Larry Bucshon (IN-08) released the following comment announcing the annual Congressional Art Competition.  Full details are listed below.

Congressman Bucshon (IN-08) states:

“I am proud to announce this year’s Congressional Art Competition.  Partnering with the Arts Council of Southwestern Indiana, SWOPE Art Museum, and Vigo County Public Library in Terre Haute is a boost for the program and I am honored to have them assist by displaying the artwork and judging the competition.  I encourage all high school students in the 8th District to participate.”

Background:

This contest is open to all currently enrolled high school students.

Official guidelines and entry forms for artwork submissions are available on Congressman Bucshon’s website under the Art Competition tab.  They can be accessed here.

Entries are to be submitted to one of the district offices by Friday, April 13, 2012.  These offices are located in Evansville, Terre Haute, and Vincennes.  Please note that normal business hours for our Vincennes office are Wednesdays from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. ET.  This office will have additional hours on April 13th from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. ET.

Judging will be a hybrid of an expert panel, from both the Arts Council of Southwestern Indiana and SWOPE Art Museum, and fan voting through Facebook.com.  The judging period will end on May 4th.

On April 20th, all submissions will be posted online in a photo album on Congressman Bucshon’s Facebook page.  Voting will take place on the Facebook page for two weeks, from April 20th to May 4th.

During the two week period, the submissions will be displayed at the Vigo County Public Library in Terre Haute, in conjunction with SWOPE Art Museum for the week of April 23rd.  The art submissions will also be displayed in Evansville, at the Main Street Gallery of the Arts Council of Southwestern Indiana during the week of April 30th.  Details and additional information for this display will be announced when they become available.

The individual with the winning piece of art will receive two free roundtrip tickets to Washington, D.C. from Southwest Airlines, tours of the Capitol and the White House, and an invitation to the Congressional awards ceremony.  Their art will be displayed at the Capitol Building in Washington, D.C. for a period of one year.  In addition, the second, third, and fourth place submissions will hang in one of my district offices for the duration of the year.

If you need additional information, please contact Samantha Reeder in the Evansville District Office at 812-465-6484.
