WASHINGTON, DC – At a press conference with Republican leaders today, House Speaker John Boehner (R-OH) discussed this week’s House vote to repeal ObamaCare, and the vote later this month to stop President Obama’s small business tax hike – both of which are making it harder for small businesses to hire in the already-sluggish economy.  Following are Speaker Boehner’s remarks:

“I spent a little time around Ohio last week, and, you know, people kept asking the same question: ‘Where are the jobs?’ That’s why this week the House will vote to repeal ObamaCare which is driving up the cost of health care and making it harder for small businesses to create jobs. 

“Meanwhile, the president is out there calling for a tax increase on American job creators.  How raising taxes on small business men and women will help our economy I can’t quite figure out.  And, frankly, I don’t think the president can either.  That’s why later on this month the House will vote to stop the coming tax hike to make sure that small business owners have some certainty about what the tax rates are going to be and hopefully we can begin to unleash them so that they can begin to do what they do best – grow their businesses and expand jobs. 

“Listen, I used to run a small business, I used to have pass-through income, I would have been affected by this tax increase that the president’s calling for.  This is not going to help our economy, this is nothing more than election-year politics.”
