Rep. Kelly Issues Statement on GE Transportation’s Decision to Move its Global Headquarters

Jun 1, 2012

Washington, D.C. — U.S. Representative Mike Kelly (PA-03)  issued the following statement in response to GE Transportation’s announcement today that it will relocate its global headquarters from Erie to Chicago:

“The people of Erie have helped make GE Transportation a leader in its field. Erie and Grove City are and will continue to be home to around 5,500 GE Transportation employees who produce some of the finest locomotive, rail, and mining equipment in the world. GE Transportation ’s recent investment of  $140 million dollars into their Erie plant and the fact that is has locally hired nearly 1800 people since the bottom of the recession demonstrate its continued commitment to and confidence in our community. Western Pennsylvanians have the type of work ethic, motivation, and talent that will remain GE Transportation’s greatest asset. GE Transportation’s decision to move its global headquarters to Chicago does not negate the significant role that Erie plays in the company’s continued global success, and my hope is that the move will, in fact, only improve upon that success, giving GE Transportation the competitive edge it needs to bring in more orders and create more jobs for the hardworking people of Western Pennsylvania.”
