CARTER STATEMENT ON HUSSEIN SENTENCING
11/05/06Washington, DC, Nov 5, 2006 - U.S. Representative John Carter (TX-31), an elected district court judge for more than 20 years, made the following statement after Saddam Hussein was sentenced to death by hanging for crimes against humanity. Fort Hood’s 4th Infantry Division was responsible for the capture of Saddam Hussein three years ago.
“This verdict is great news for the Iraqi people who were ruthlessly terrorized by Saddam Hussein’s regime for too long. Justice has been served, and the courageous actions of the Iraqis will keep this murderer from reigning terror on future generations of innocent people. Our service men and women must also be commended for their tireless efforts that have made this day possible. This is an important achievement for the Iraqi people as they move forward in establishing a free, democratic society.”
Congressman Carter is honored to represent the largest military installation in the world, Fort Hood. The 4th Infantry Division was also the first of the U.S. forces on the ground following Al-Zarqawi’s death. Carter had the opportunity to visit the 4th ID in Iraq in April and thank them for their service.
