WASHINGTON, DC – Congressman Ander Crenshaw, a member of the Defense Appropriations Subcommittee, today (5/18) supported Congresswoman Corrine Brown’s amendment to the National Defense Authorization Act (H.R. 4310) regarding  future funding for Mile Point.

The measure was included in H.R. 4310 which passed the House with Crenshaw’s approval and now moves to the United States Senate for consideration.

“This amendment helps clear the way for the use of state and local funds on the Mile
Point project, enabling work to begin immediately on one of Northeast Florida’s
most important job-generating projects,” said Crenshaw, in supporting
Congresswoman Brown’s amendment. “JAXPort and the state are prepared to put
money forward to begin the long-overdue removal of navigation hazards at Mile
Point. The sooner the work can begin, the better. The safe and efficient
movement of cargo vessel traffic through Mile Point is central to the current
and future economic prosperity and is in everyone’s best interest.”

The amendment allows Army Corps of Engineers projects from around the nation that
have an approved Chief of Army Corps of Engineers report and can fund the
projects through state and local funds to move ahead.
