NUNNELEE STRONGLY OPPOSED TO CLEAN DEBT LIMIT INCREASE

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

NEWS RELEASE – May 31, 2011

NUNNELEE STRONGLY OPPOSED TO CLEAN DEBT LIMIT INCREASE

No spending cuts or reforms means NO debt limit increase

(Washington, D.C.) – Today, Congressman Nunnelee issued the following statement on the “clean” debt limit vote requested by President Obama and congressional Democrats.

“President Obama and congressional Democrats have asked for a ‘clean’ increase in the debt limit without any spending cuts or reforms to reduce our debt,” Nunnelee said.  “I am strongly opposed to this unreasonable proposal that would not only keep our country on a fiscally unsustainable path, but continue business as usual in Washington.   Without substantial decreases in spending, I will continue to reject an increase in the debt limit. I haven’t seen any indication that the President and the Democratic leadership are ready to cut up their credit card and get serious about Washington’s spending problem,” concluded Nunnelee.

Congressman Alan Nunnelee represents Mississippi’s First Congressional District and serves on the House Appropriations Committee.  This is his first term.
