NUNNELEE: HOUSE PASSES TRAIN ACT

Legislation seeks to prevent EPA from killing jobs and raising price of electricity

(Washington, D.C.) – Today H.R. 2401, the Transparency in Regulatory Analysis of Impacts to the Nation Act, passed in the House of Representatives. Congressman Alan Nunnelee is a cosponsor of the legislation that would require a cumulative economic analysis for specific EPA rules, and specifically delay the final date for both the maximum achievable control technology (MACT) standards and the cross-state air pollution rule (CSAPR) until the full impact of the Obama administration’s regulatory agenda has been studied.

“We already know that the EPA has imposed unnecessary and burdensome regulations on businesses, but at what cost?  This legislation will help uncover exactly how much the EPA is costing Mississippi consumers, farmers, small businesses, and state and local governments.  Through this analysis we can determine how these regulations will affect electricity prices, fuel prices and unemployment. Our goal is to fully understand the impacts of the Obama Administration’s regulatory agenda and remove those that are hurting our economy and destroying jobs,” Nunnelee said.

According to NERA Economic Consulting, the Utility MACT rule and cross-state air pollution rule are estimated to costs $17.8 billion annually and result in 1.44 million lost jobs by 2020.

Congressman Alan Nunnelee represents Mississippi’s First Congressional District and serves on the House Appropriations Committee.  This is his first term.
