Defense and National Security
The issues of Defense and National Security are important to our district and to my work in Congress.
Since September 11, 2001, the United States has led a coalition of nations in the global War on Terror. The sacrifice borne by American servicemembers provides a stark reminder that the costs of freedom are high, and that we have an obligation to provide for our nation’s security. As coalition forces continue their heroic efforts to thwart global terrorism, stabilize the respective regions, and improve the economic, social, and political conditions, we must be steadfast in our support of their efforts.
Above all, this means providing the necessary resources as requested by the commanders on the ground. I firmly believe that the military men and women on the ground in Iraq and Afghanistan and across the globe, have the most useful knowledge and understanding of the nature of our enemy and the means necessary to achieve victory. Anything short of providing all the tools needed for victory is unacceptable.
