The three documents below provide details of the Library of Congress's plan for making changes to authority and bibliographic files to bring them into conformance with the recently revised Korean romanization and word division guidelines.
- Significant Changes in the Revised Korean Romanization and Word Division Guidelines [Word file; 51 KB] highlights the portions of the guidelines that will require the most changes to be made in the authority and bibliographic filed.
- Korean Bibliographic File Maintenance [Word file; 54 KB] provides a detailed workflow and step-by-step instructions for making changes to authority and bibliographic records.
-
Priorities for Updating Specific Words [Excel file; 175 KB] places words that need to be updated into three priorities:
- Priority 1: words most likely to be found in authority records;
- Priority 2: words most likely to be found in titles (fields 245 and 740) and imprints (field 260);
- Priority 3: other words that need to be updated.
Many of the words that need to be changed will be identified only when they are encountered in the course of work at the Library of Congress. When librarians from other institutions identify additional words that should be changed to bring them into conformance with the new guidelines, they are invited to send them to Elaine Hyojoung Kim so that they can be added to the list. The Library will then periodically update this list of specific words that need to be changed.
