Man admits killing missing Hillsboro woman, leaving body near Henry Hagg Lake, court records say

Eloy Vasquez-Santiago, 29, told two Hillsboro detectives that he struck and then stabbed 55-year-old Maria Bolanos-Rivera, killing her, according to an affidavit in support of an arrest warrant filed in Washington County Circuit Court. Investigators, police said, have not found her body.  Full story »

Hillsboro city council approves issuing bonds for baseball stadium and other big-ticket items

The Hillsboro city council passed a jam-packed consent agenda Tuesday night with ramifications for city parks, libraries and building departments. Most pressing, the council approved the issuance of $12.5 million in full faith and credit bonds to fund construction of a new ballpark for recently named Hillsboro Hops Class A baseball team. The actual issuance of the bonds is expected sometime in November.  Full story »

Eloy Vasquez-Santiago, 29, pleaded not guilty to one count of murder before Washington County Circuit Court Judge James Fun this afternoon. During the hearing, Fun told Vasquez-Santiago that "Now is the time for you to listen, not talk."  Full story »
