Boustany Votes Against Dramatic, New Energy Tax

Washington, D.C. – U.S. Representative Charles W. Boustany, Jr., (R-Southwest Louisiana), today voted against Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s proposed “Cap and Trade” energy tax bill, H.R. 2454.

“We need a responsible energy plan for the Gulf Coast and America,” Boustany said.  “Thousands of good-paying jobs along the Gulf Coast depend on American energy production.  This bill, crafted by the liberal Democratic leadership, will kill thousands of those jobs, spiking unemployment.  I urge Senators to take a long look at the impact this would have on jobs and kill this bill.”

Boustany, a member of the House Ways and Means Committee, continues to advocate a comprehensive energy plan to create American jobs and decrease our dependence on foreign sources of fuel as the country transitions to new types of fuel sources over the coming years.

The House passed the bill 219-212.  It now will be considered in the Senate.
