LATTA STATEMENT ON OMNIBUS SPENDING BILL

Washington, Dec 15, 2010 - Congressman Bob Latta (R-Bowling Green) made the following statement regarding the proposed Omnibus spending bill introduced in the Senate yesterday.

“Clearly, Congressional Democrats did not get the message that voters delivered last month.  Yesterday, Senate Democrat Leadership introduced a 1,900 page Omnibus spending bill that if passed, would cost approximately $1.2 trillion.  Not only does this bill increase federal spending, it includes 6,000 earmarks totaling $8 billion.  The increased spending amount and inclusion of earmarks goes against the simple message voters screamed across the country on Election Day- ‘enough is enough.’

I, along with my House Republican colleagues, have called for spending levels to return to FY 2008 levels and have agreed to an earmark moratorium for this fiscal year and the 112th Congress.  These pro-active initiatives represent the commitment House Republicans have made to the American people to get serious about correcting the out-of-control spending and debt problems facing our nation.

The Senate proposal is yet another defiance of the will of the American people, and I will work and vote against the Omnibus spending bill should it reach the House floor.”
