ENERGYState Energy ProgramFunding: $3.1 billion; New Jersey will receive $73.6 million Administrator: State of New Jersey, counties and municipalities Description: Funding will be available for rebates to consumers for home energy audits or other energy saving improvements; development of renewable energy projects for clean electricity generation and alternative fuels; promotion of Energy Star products; efficiency upgrades for state and local government buildings; and other innovative state efforts to help save families money on their energy bills. Larger counties and municipalities will receive funding directly from the Department of Energy; funds for small counties and municipalities will go through the State. The installation or acquisition of infrastructure necessary to directly support an alternative fueled vehicle, fuel cell vehicle, or hybrid vehicle project funded by the grant is also eligible. This program would add federal funds to increase the effectiveness of these programs and to encourage the remaining states to adopt similar programs. This will speed the rollout of appliances that will be able to take advantage of smart meters and spur consumer purchases of smart and energy-efficient appliances.
