"The Department of Agriculture declared on November 30 several parishes in Southwest Louisiana disaster areas as a result of a drought beginning on March 23, 2010 and continuing. Farmers in these areas have eight months from the date of this emergency declaration to apply for emergency loan assistance on a case-by-case basis."

"I am pleased with the FDA's decision to reverse their proposal to ban the summer harvesting of oysters along the Gulf Coast," said Boustany. "This ruling will protect a half-billion dollar industry responsible for 3,500 jobs along the Gulf Coast. Continued education and awareness regarding the consumption of raw oysters is the responsible thing to do."

U.S. Representative Charles W. Boustany, Jr., R-Southwest Louisiana, will host the 3rd annual Farm Day Forum. This year's forum will be held on Wednesday, February 18 from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. CDT at the Abbeville Recreational Center. Boustany will discuss implementation of the 2008 Farm Bill, potential markets for Louisiana agricultural products and a number of other issues related to the farming and ranching community.
